On June 17, China IPPR secured the EPC general contracting contract for the 100MW/102MWh standalone hybrid energy storage power station project in Changfeng County, Hefei City, Anhui Province, with a total contract value of RMB 1.127 billion. The deal marks a key business breakthrough for the company in the emerging composite energy storage track.
As Anhui Province’s first large-scale standalone hybrid energy storage power station integrating flywheel and lithium battery technologies, the project adopts an innovative coupled technical solution that combines flywheel energy storage and lithium iron phosphate electrochemical energy storage. With a total installed capacity of 100MW/102MWh, the dual energy storage systems deliver complementary performance, enabling coordinated operation covering instantaneous power regulation and long-duration energy storage scenarios.
The project’s technical scheme aligns with the overall guidance of the?mainstream industrial development principles on diversified layout, high-quality development and safe operation of new-type energy storage:?
Flywheel energy storage boasts strengths including millisecond-level rapid response, a cycle life of one million times, zero chemical degradation and zero risk of thermal runaway. It can rapidly undertake short-term grid frequency regulation, smooth fluctuations in new energy output and deliver emergency power support.
Lithium iron phosphate energy storage excels in long-duration capacity peak shaving, energy consumption absorption and peak-valley arbitrage. The combination of the two effectively meets the development demands of diversified regulating resources for the new power system.
Upon completion, the project will form a complete and replicable composite energy storage solution integrating short and long-duration storage.?
It will provide solid hardware support and practical technical references for Hefei City and Anhui Province to build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system and advance the profound green transformation of the energy mix.
This contract signing represents a major achievement of China IPPR in advancing forward-looking layout and proactively deploying cutting-edge composite energy storage technologies. It forms a full closed loop for the EPC business of flywheel energy storage ranging from technology R&D to commercial implementation, further consolidating the company’s leading industrial advantages in the field of new energy storage engineering.
